Motor Freight Carriers has over 25 years experience moving freight, including Flatbed Trucking, Dry Van, Pneumatic, Tankers, and End Dumps throughout the continental United States and Canada. Intermodal transport is a constantly flowing and successful form of transportation to move goods inland from ports and distribution centers. This could have a very positive effect on your business and the global supply chain. In North America, containers are often shipped by Intermodal transport using rail and container well cars. These cars resemble flatcars with newer cars having a container-sized depression, or well, in the middle of the car. Well cars allow for double stacking of containers for easy transport. It is common to use Intermodal transport with semi-trailers on railway flatcars, or spine cars, in an arrangement called piggyback. This method is referred to as TOFC (trailer on flatcar) or COFC (container on flatcar). Some flatcars have collapsible trailer hitches allowing trailers to be rolled on from one end. Lifting trailers onto flatcars is also a common form of Intermodal transport.
Railway wheel assemblies are placed between the trailers when they are transported on rail, turning the trailers into one large railway car (roadrailer). This method can be faster and more cost-effective than putting trailers on flatcars. On average the train can carry commodities four times further than a truck can in a fraction of the time, therefore Intermodal transport is a terrific timesaver, as well! With Intermodal transportation, you needn't worry about constant handling of your freight, as it is simply changing modes from truck, to rail, or even to ships. This gives you the added satisfaction of the additional security you will receive, as well as fewer losses and reduced costs. Shippers prefer a quick response to their shipment's changeability and love to have knowledge of the precise location of goods anywhere at any time. Standard Transportation has the technology to back this up. When your company's needs require Intermodal transport of commodities, Motor Freight Carriers is the company to call!
