A tractor trailer will pick up your LTL shipment along a short route and will bring it on to the terminal where the LTL shipment will be transferred to another truck.  The secondary truck will bring the shipment, along with other LTL shipments onward to the destination city's terminal.  The LTL shipment is transferred from truck to truck until it makes its final destination.

Compared to pricing for the hire and transport of a full shipment, the cost of shipping less-than-truckload is relatively inexpensive.  Just keep in mind that since the less-than-truckload shipment does not go directly to the end user, the transport time may take longer. LTL is a service that actually falls between full truckload shipments and parcel carriers.  The same equipment used in full shipments is used in LTL shipments.
